Rupee shows mild strength against US dollar on Friday
Oct-16-2026

Indian rupee has shown mild strength against US dollar on Friday. Initially, rupee opened on stronger note against the US currency, supported by easing crude oil prices, US bond yields and the Reserve Bank of India's measures to curb spot dollar demand. However, the domestic currency faced strong pressure over the course of the session as investors took cautious approach amid persistent foreign capital outflows from Indian markets. The foreign institutional investors were the net sellers on Thursday’s session, offloading securities worth Rs 5,285.37 crore. On the global front, British pound has strengthened against the US dollar on Friday amid rising expectations of Bank of England rate increase next month following better-than-expected UK economic data.

Finally, the rupee ended at 94.93 (Provisional), strengthened by 6 paise from its previous close of 94.99 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 95.06 and 94.71 respectively.
