Indian rupee weakens against US dollar on Friday
Oct-23-2026

Indian rupee has weakened against US dollar on Friday as escalating tensions in West Asia fuelled global crude oil prices. The brent crude oil prices have surged past $114 a barrel as a deadly attack on a Saudi oil field added to concerns over supply disruptions. Besides, capital outflows from foreign institutional investors (FIIs) weighed on domestic currency. FIIs were the net sellers on Thursday’s session, offloading securities worth Rs 3,458.70 crore. Meanwhile, traders overlooked HSBC Flash India PMI report indicating India's private sector business activity signalled continued growth in October 2026, supported by stronger new orders and easing inflationary pressures. On the global front, British pound has weakened against the US dollar on Friday after retail sales in UK fell more than expected in September.

Finally, the rupee ended at 94.93 (Provisional), weakened by 12 paise from its previous close of 94.81 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 94.98 and 94.77 respectively.
