Key gauges trade flat in morning deals
Oct-30-2026

Indian equity benchmarks erased initial gains and were trading flat in morning deals weighed down by a sharp selloff in global technology stocks and surging crude oil price. Some concern came as exchange data showed Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 943.60 crore on Thursday. Investors also remained focused on quarterly earnings from key companies, including Reliance Industries and Sun Pharma due later in the day. However, traders took some support as Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal expressed confidence that India is on track to achieve its ambitious $1 trillion exports target in the current financial year (FY27), despite geopolitical uncertainties and disruptions to global trade arising from the West Asia crisis and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. On the global front, Asian markets are trading mostly in red following the broadly negative cues from Wall Street overnight, dragged by South Korean and Japanese markets on continued sell-off in semiconductor and technology stocks amid concerns over the sustainability of the AI and technology investments.

He emphasised the need to enhance the competitiveness of firms across the board, noting that Atmanirbhar Bharat does not mean India is going back to the pre-1991 era. He highlighted that Textiles, apparel, footwear, and food processing can create employment on a large scale, while semiconductors, electronics components, advanced materials, and clean technologies can build India's technological strength.

Further, he said it is basically the competitiveness and the quality of the products that ‘we should increase.’ he noted ‘Support for these industries should be well-designed, linked to clear goals, and reviewed regularly so that public resources achieve the greatest impact.’
