Indices trade in fine fettle in late morning deals
Oct-30-2026

Domestic equity indices were trading higher, with gains of around half a per cent in late morning deals, supported by buying from funds and retail investors. Buying in IT and banking stocks, such as Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, HCL Technologies, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank, helped the Sensex and Nifty reclaim their psychological levels of 74,400 and 23,000, respectively. Support came in markets as the Finance Ministry's October Monthly Economic Review showed that India's economy is estimated to have grown by 7.35 per cent in the July-September quarter of the current financial year, supported by strong domestic demand, industrial activity and higher consumption.

On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly in the red, following negative cues from the US markets overnight. Meanwhile, the uncertainty over the resolution in the Middle East conflict also continues to weigh on market sentiment.

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 74459.32, up by 308.28 points or 0.42% after trading in a range of 74082.03 and 74508.50. There were 14 stocks advancing against 16 stocks declining on the index.

Meanwhile, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has expressed confidence that India is on track to achieve its ambitious $1 trillion exports target in the current financial year (FY27), despite geopolitical uncertainties and disruptions to global trade arising from the West Asia crisis and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The minister also said that the nine free trade agreements (FTAs) finalised by India over the past five years would provide preferential market access for domestic goods to economies with a combined GDP of $60 trillion.  He said 'in 2025-26, India's goods and services touched an all-time high of $863 billion and this year, we have set a target ...we took the unholy risk, very very challenging target of attempting to go to USD one trillion of exports.’ He also said ‘aiming for a 15 per cent growth in exports this year... We will do, we can do.’

Meanwhile, India's merchandise exports during April-September FY27 increased 18.51 per cent year-on-year to $259.89 billion, while imports rose 16.31 per cent to $437.53 billion. Consequently, the merchandise trade deficit widened to $177.64 billion during the first half of FY27, compared with $156.88 billion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. The estimated value of services exports during April-September FY27 stood at $216.31 billion, up from $199.02 billion in the corresponding period of FY26. The country's combined goods and services exports are estimated at $476.2 billion during the first half of the current financial year.
