Post Session: Quick Review
Nov-02-2026

Indian equity markets extended their winning streak for the third consecutive session on Monday, with both the Sensex and Nifty closing more than one and a half percent higher, amid broad-based buying in heavyweight stocks, led by Reliance Industries and Tata Steel. Reliance Industries surged around 10% following the announcement of its quarterly net profit. Sentiments remained upbeat amid easing crude oil prices, optimism surrounding diplomatic efforts to resolve the Iran conflict, and strong quarterly earnings from heavyweight companies.

Some of the important factors in trade:

Gross GST collections rise 23% to Rs 2.31 lakh crore in October driven by festive demand: Some support came as the government data showed GST collections jumped 23 per cent year-on-year to the second-highest level of over Rs 2.31 lakh crore in October as festive buying boosted domestic demand.

Goyal says India’s trade pacts to open up $85 trillion market: Sentiment on the street also remained positive with Union Minister Piyush Goyal’s statement that India's trade pacts with several countries are expected to provide preferential access to Indian goods and services in markets with a combined Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of $85 trillion in the coming years.

Bank credit grows 17.94% Y-o-Y to Rs 232.54 lakh crore as of October 15: The street took a note of the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) latest data showing that bank credit grew 17.94 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) to Rs 232.54 lakh crore as of October 15, 2026, from Rs 197.17 lakh crore recorded on October 17, 2025.

On the global front: European stocks were trading higher ahead of the Bank of England’s policy decision on Thursday, with markets widely expecting the first-interest rate hike since 2023. Asian stock markets ended mostly higher, after the manufacturing sector in China continued to expand in October, albeit at a slower pace, with a Performance of Manufacturing Index score of 52.0.

The BSE Sensex ended at 75692.78, up by 1233.25 points or 1.66% after trading in a range of 74978.12 and 75692.78. There were 23 stocks advancing against 7 stocks declining on the index. (Provisional)

The gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Energy up by 6.06%, Oil & Gas up by 4.89%, Metal up by 3.13%, Basic Materials up by 2.55% and Power up by 2.42% while, IT down by 0.30% was the only losing index on BSE. (Provisional)

The top gainers on the Sensex were Reliance Industries up by 11.64%, Tata Steel up by 5.64%, Ultratech Cement up by 2.75%, State Bank of India up by 2.71% and NTPC up by 2.37%. On the flip side, Infosys down by 1.61%, Kotak Mahindra Bank down by 0.65%, ICICI Bank down by 0.63%, Sun Pharma down by 0.58% and Axis Bank down by 0.47% were the top losers. (Provisional)

Meanwhile, India’s manufacturing sector growth eased in the month of October 2026, amid softer increases in output and new orders. According to the survey report, the seasonally adjusted HSBC India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) fell from 55.1 in September to 54.7 in October, however was comfortably above the neutral mark of 50.0.

The survey report noted that a sustained improvement in demand was reflected in a further sharp rise in new business. Growth eased only marginally from September’s seven-month high and remained strong by historical standards, amid favourable demand trends, new client wins and successful marketing campaigns. Besides, overseas markets contributed to the upturn, as new export orders increased at the fastest rate in six months. Supported by rising sales and new product releases, firms lifted output at a sharp rate that exceeded its long-run average. Growth nevertheless softened from the previous month, driven by a slowdown among intermediate goods makers. This category still led the expansion, however. Although some material and energy costs increased, overall input and output price pressures eased slightly from the previous month.

Higher production requirements and rising workloads encouraged a second successive monthly increase in factory employment. The pace of job creation eased, however, and was only slight. Capital goods producers reduced staffing, with growth seen elsewhere. Outstanding business volumes meanwhile rose for the seventh consecutive month at the start of the third fiscal quarter, though the pace of accumulation was fractional.

The CNX Nifty ended at 23440.80, up by 387.70 points or 1.68% after trading in a range of 23207.05 and 23440.80. There were 38 stocks advancing against 12 stocks declining on the index. (Provisional)

The top gainers on Nifty were Reliance Industries up by 11.60%, Tata Steel up by 5.83%, JSW Steel up by 5.13%, Shriram Finance up by 4.88% and Coal India up by 4.88%. On the flip side, Infosys down by 2.03%, ICICI Bank down by 0.76%, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories down by 0.74%, Kotak Mahindra Bank down by 0.70% and Axis Bank down by 0.66% were the top losers. (Provisional)

European markets were trading higher; France’s CAC rose 29.58 points or 0.37% to 7,999.00, Germany’s DAX gained 72.09 points or 0.28% to 25,890.30 and UK’s FTSE 100 increased 10.64 points or 0.1% to 10,740.42.

Asian markets settled mostly higher on Monday, tracking a sharp drop in crude oil prices following reports of continued talks between Iranian and Qatari officials aimed at ending the conflict in Middle East, despite fears of renewed US military action against Iran. Meanwhile, private surveys in October showed that factory activity across major Asian economies continued to expand, though growth slowed in key chip-exporting countries such as Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. South Korea’s Kospi rallied, buoyed by strong institutional buying and a sharp rebound in semiconductor shares after data showed the country's exports surged 93.7% year-on-year to a record $115.3 billion in October. However, Japanese markets ended slightly lower following a global technology sell-off triggered by disappointing quarterly results from Intel and Amazon. Traders also shifted their focus on this week's US midterm elections, which will determine control of US Congress.
