Three rebel AAP MLAs join BJP ahead of 2027 Punjab Assembly elections
Nov-02-2026

In a significant setback to the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, three MLAs joined the BJP at its central headquarters in New Delhi, hours after they resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party's primary membership. The three rebel legislators are Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, Chetan Singh Jouramajra and Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh. Pathanmajra, the MLA from Sanaur, and Jouramajra, who represents Samana in Patiala district, resigned from the primary membership of the AAP on Sunday. Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, who represents Amritsar North, also resigned today. The joining comes shortly after the Aam Aadmi Party announced its candidate list, which excluded their names.

Soon after joining the BJP, Vijay Pratap Singh said, ‘Peace and prosperity can be restored in Punjab with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior BJP leaders. We have seen how BJP governments have worked in various states.’ He further said, ‘Today, my five-year internship in AAP came to an end, and I am formally joining the BJP. With our experience, we will make every effort to restore peace and prosperity in Punjab,’ adding, ‘Whatever responsibility is entrusted to us, we will fulfil it diligently.’

Welcoming the three former AAP leaders to the party, the Punjab BJP chief expressed happiness and said in Punjabi, ‘BJP ranks are growing day by day. Time has come for the AAP to go’. BJP national general secretary and in-charge of party affairs in Punjab, Satish Poonia, co-in-charge Virendra Sachdeva and the party’s Punjab unit president Kewal Singh Dhillon were present on the occasion.
