Post Session: Quick Review
Nov-03-2026

Indian equity markets ended significantly higher on Tuesday, with both the Sensex and Nifty extending their winning streak to a fourth consecutive session, supported by broad-based buying across sectors. Gains were led by heavyweight stocks in banking, consumer goods, automobiles and financial services sectors. Sentiments remained upbeat amid strong corporate earnings and renewed foreign fund inflows. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net buyers of Indian equities on November 2, 2026, purchasing shares worth Rs 3,114.68 crore.

Some of the important factors in trade:

Govt to support economic growth by undertaking Capex until private investment increases: Traders took support with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s statement that the government will continue to support economic growth by undertaking capital expenditure (Capex) until private sector investment gains momentum.

India pushes for stronger trade, investment partnership with EU during high-level talks in Brussels: Traders got comfort, after India and the European Union (EU) have stepped up engagement to deepen their economic ties, with Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal holding high-level meetings with key European Commission officials in Brussels.

Central govt's fiscal deficit likely to exceed budget estimate in 2026-27: Traders overlooked SBI Research report stating that the central government's fiscal deficit is likely to exceed the budget estimate by Rs 1.2 lakh crore in 2026-27, primarily due to structural factors, including higher expenditure on fertiliser, LPG and petroleum subsidies, along with the impact of the revised GDP base year.

On the global front: European stocks were trading lower amid mounting concerns over artificial intelligence, mixed corporate earnings, and uncertainty surrounding the upcoming US midterm elections. Asian stock markets are trading mostly lower, following reports of a US strike on Iran’s Qeshm Island, which sent oil prices higher and heightened concerns over escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, chairing a high-level roundtable on 'India's Bioeconomy Opportunity: Role of Startups in Driving Innovation and Growth', Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has emphasised the need to leverage India’s scientific capabilities and entrepreneurial talent to position the country as a global leader in the bioeconomy. He underscored the importance of faster approvals, improved access to finance, shared infrastructure and stronger industry-academia-Government collaboration. He also called for time-bound action on the recommendations emerging from the roundtable.

Organised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), in collaboration with NITI Aayog and NITI Frontier Tech Hub, the roundtable brought together policymakers, industry leaders and biopharma startups to deliberate on measures to accelerate the growth of India’s bioeconomy. The discussions focused on strengthening the biopharma startup ecosystem through streamlined regulations, faster approvals, a proposed Regulatory Sandbox, Single Window Clearance, global regulatory alignment and simplified patent application processes.

The importance of Biopharma SHAKTI, announced in the Union Budget 2026-27, was also discussed, along with the need to develop shared infrastructure, including laboratories, testing facilities and clinical trial facilities, to reduce costs and enable startups to scale their innovations. The roundtable also discussed measures to strengthen indigenous life sciences manufacturing, expedite customs clearance for laboratory equipment and reagents, and simplify access to Government schemes and regulatory support. Participants emphasised the need for stronger inter-ministerial coordination to facilitate coherent policy interventions and ensure faster resolution of sector-specific challenges.

Asian markets ended mostly lower on Tuesday, pressured by a deepening sell-off in US technology and artificial intelligence stocks alongside heightened fears of Middle East escalation. Investors were on edge as voting began in the crucial US midterm elections. Further, Chinese markets declined, even as Chinese regulators rolled out a series of support measures, ranging from conducting swap operations to upgrading a lending facility for stock buybacks by listed companies, as part of efforts to stabilise struggling capital markets. Moreover, South Korea’s Kospi tumbled amid foreign and institutional sell-offs driven by growing worries about massive artificial intelligence spending, while the country's consumer price inflation rose 2.8% year-over-year in October 2026. Meanwhile, Japanese market was closed in observation of Culture Day holiday.
