UP Elections 2022: All parties in favour of holding polls on time following Covid protocol, says EC
Dec-30-2021

The Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra has announced that all political parties in Uttar Pradesh (UP) were on favour of holding the assembly elections on time following all COVID-19 protocols. This comes amid demands to postpone polls due to the Omicron threat across the country.

EC said that the representatives of all political parties met them and told them that elections should be conducted on time following all Covid-19 protocols. He also said that the final list of eligible voters will be released on January 5, 2022, adding that voting will be held from 8am to 6pm on the date of polling. A delegation of the Election Commission of India (ECI) is on a three-day visit to UP to review the preparations for the upcoming Assembly polls to ensure free and fair elections.

Last week, the Allahabad High Court had requested the EC and PM Narendra Modi to consider postponing the upcoming Assembly elections in UP due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19. UP assembly elections slated to be held in February-March 2022.
