Ex-BJP minister Jaynarayan Vyas joins Congress ahead of Gujarat polls
Nov-28-2022

With the Gujarat assembly elections around the corner, former BJP minister and veteran leader Jay Narayan Vyas joined the opposition Congress today.

The former cabinet minister’s son, Sameer Vyas, also joined the Congress in Ahmedabad. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot were formally present at the party headquarters in Ahmedabad to welcome Vyas and his son into the party.

Vyas quit the BJP on November 5, 2022 saying he was tired of being in the role of a ‘complainant’ in the saffron party despite his seniority. He was in charge of the health and family welfare department from 2007 to 2012 when Narendra Modi was the chief Minister. Vyas’s induction into the team is expected to benefit the Congress in the Sidhpur seat in Patan district where sitting party MLA Chandanji Thakor is currently in the fray. Elections for the 182-member Gujarat Assembly are scheduled on December 1 and 5.
