Rupee strengthens against US dollar on Friday

Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Friday. But, it opened marginally weaker against the US dollar, tracking losses in local equity markets and Asian currencies. Forex market remained shut on Thursday on account of ‘Dussehra’. On the global front, the euro hovered near a one-week low against the dollar on Friday as the European Commission’s criticism of Italy’s populist budget sparked fresh concerns about political tensions in the common currency zone.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 73.42, stronger by 19 paise from its previous close of 73.61 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 73.6500 and 73.3925 respectively. The reference rate for the dollar stood at 73.48 and for Euro stood at 84.98 on October 17, 2018. While the reference rate for the Yen stood at 65.47, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 96.86. The reference rates are based on 12 noon rates of a few select banks in Mumbai.
