Chintan Shivir begins: Congress set for 1 family 1 ticket rule
May-13-2022

As the three-day Chintan Shivir, the brain-storming session of the Congress, begins in Rajasthan’s Udaipur today, the party is expected to undergo some big changes.

The Congress is all set to adopt the ‘One family, one ticket’ formula with an exception to only another family member who has been doing ‘exemplary work’ for the party for a period of at least five years. The exemption would provide a lifeline to families with many members working relentlessly for years for the organisation and will apply across ranks including the Congress’s ruling Gandhi family. This formula is likely to be adopted at the end of the Chintan Shivir.

The other major reforms to strengthen the organisation include establishing mandal committees between booth and block level in the organisation, an in-house public insight department to read the mood of the people and espouse issues close to them; an internal assessment wing to promote performers and check inertia; a fixed five-year tenure for office bearers followed by a three-year cooling off period should anyone seek reappointment to the same post.
